Meet The Team

Each of the company principals has a long track record in reservoir simulator development and reservoir engineering, having previously worked for SSI, Sohio, ECL, Intera and Schlumberger. Tommy Miller and Garf Bowen, based in the UK, have been key members of the ECLIPSE software development team, helping to establish ECLIPSE as the market leading simulator and industry standard. Tommy and Garf have teamed up with Chet Ozgen, technical director of NITEC, a reservoir engineering consulting company based in Denver, Colorado. Chet has had a long involvement with reservoir simulation having worked on SimBest-II, COMP4 and COZSim.

The consulting business will help ground the technology development in real world problems along with providing technical feedback.

From 1985 to 1993, Chet worked for Scientific Software-Intercomp, Inc. (SSI), where he held various software development and engineering consulting positions. Prior to his employment at SSI, he worked at Sohio Petroleum Corporation from 1982 to 1985 in the development planning of the Prudhoe Bay Field.

Gareth Shaw

Linear Solver Specialist

Gareth Shaw

Linear Solver Specialist

Gareth is a mathematician with over 30 years experience developing and analysing numerical algorithms and their software implementations, with a particular emphasis on discretization techniques, fast iterative solution of large sparse linear systems, and high performance computing. After completing his D Phil he conducted research into computational fluid dynamics at Delft University of Technology and Oxford University, where he also held a lectureship. After 10 years developing scientific software solutions at NAG Ltd, he moved to Schlumberger in 2002, where he worked as a developer on the ECLIPSE and INTERSECT reservoir simulators; ultimately becoming manager of the INTERSECT Engine team and one of the key technical authorities on INTERSECT. He joined Ridgeway Kite in October 2014. Gareth has written more than 20 peer reviewed scientific papers, acted as reviewer for numerous projects, and served on the organizing Committee
of major international conferences.

Ian Pallister

Simulator Functionality Developer

Ian Pallister

Simulator Functionality Developer

Ian is an experienced reservoir simulation software developer with more than 25 years in the oil and gas industry. He recently joined from Schlumberger where he was Team Leader of a Physics Asset team on the Intersect reservoir simulator, to which he contributed for almost ten years. Prior to that he developed software for non-linearly constrained production optimization in the ECLIPSE compositional simulator, was the author of the SimOpt computer-aided history matching software, lead developer of a PVT thermodynamics package, and contributed to various other pre- and post- processing software for both Schlumberger and Roxar. Although Ian entered the industry from a background of research in theoretical astrophysics, these days he prefers to focus on delivering quality-focused maintainable commercial software whilst enjoying the challenges of capturing physics in pragmatic mathematical models.
